About the Team

TernMaps is created and built by 4 friends in Charleston, SC.

As frequent surfers ourselves, we wanted something that could be hung on the wall, display current surf conditions, and be a work of art and craftsmanship. Over the past 2 years we have iterated and carefully whittled down our ideas to the TernMap.

Every TernMap is built by our team in Charleston, South Carolina.

The process involves, CNC cutting, wood burning, staining, framing, wiring, and soldering

We put significant time and energy into each TernMap to make sure you will love it as much as we do.

Art over Technology

Groundbreaking technology was not the mantra of this project

We believe the TernMap to be more of an art piece than a technological wonder.

We believe there is nothing quite like it, and it is going to get a lot of attention where ever you chose to hang it

Available in Drops

Because each TernMap takes time to craft, we will release them in Drops.

This allows us to ship each TernMap as quickly as possible and to make sure we have time to improve upon each Drop.

We foresee each Drop being slightly different, new locations, new surf breaks, different designs, so please send us any requests!

  • An early plywood prototype with a traced coastline, lit LEDs, and a microcontroller wired up on a chair.
  • Two of us working around the CNC router in the garage.
  • Wood-burning a coastline into a pine map at the kitchen table.
  • Two of us staining a batch of maps in the workshop.
  • A finished East Coast TernMap on the wall with its LEDs lit.
  • The four of us in the living room holding up our maps.
