Ternmaps One-Year Warranty
Every Ternmap includes a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase.
We build every map ourselves in Charleston, South Carolina, and we want it to keep working the way it should. If something goes wrong because of a defect in the product, contact us and we'll work with you directly to resolve it.
What's Covered
The Ternmaps warranty covers defects in materials, workmanship, electronics, or assembly during normal intended use.
Covered issues may include:
- LED failures
- Internal electronics failures
- Wiring or soldering defects
- Wi-Fi hardware failures
- Power-related component failures
- Frame or map construction defects
- Other manufacturing or assembly defects
The warranty applies to the complete Ternmap, not only its electronics.
How Warranty Issues Are Handled
Because every issue is different, the appropriate solution may vary.
Depending on the problem, Ternmaps may:
- Troubleshoot the issue remotely
- Provide instructions for a simple repair
- Walk you through a repair if you are comfortable doing it yourself
- Repair the map directly
- Replace the map or affected components when necessary
Do not ship your Ternmap back without contacting us first.
Making a Warranty Claim
Email info@ternmaps.surf and include:
- Your name
- Order number, if available
- Which Ternmap you purchased
- A description of the issue
- Photos or video if they help demonstrate the problem
We'll review the issue and determine the appropriate next step.
What's Not Covered
The warranty does not cover damage caused by circumstances outside normal intended use, including:
- Drops, impacts, or other accidental physical damage
- Water or excessive moisture exposure
- Fire, extreme heat, or other environmental damage
- Improper power supplies or electrical connections
- Improper installation
- Misuse or neglect
- Unauthorized modifications that contribute to the failure
If you're interested in repairing or modifying your Ternmap, contact us first. We are happy to help customers understand how their map works, but modifications performed without guidance may affect warranty coverage if they cause damage.
Natural Wood Variations
Every Ternmap is made from real wood and finished by hand.
Differences in grain, knots, texture, color, wood-burning, and other natural or handmade characteristics are expected. These variations make each map unique and are not considered defects.
Wi-Fi and Online Connectivity
Ternmaps require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connectionand access to Ternmaps' online services to receive current surf conditions.
Temporary interruptions caused by home Wi-Fi, internet service, third-party infrastructure, or temporary Ternmaps service outages are not considered product defects.
When updates are interrupted, your map can keep displaying the last conditions it received. During a service outage, it may show old conditions for about an hour before switching to its blue setup lights, even when your home Wi-Fi is working.
If condition updates stop for another reason, the map can continue showing old conditions without a visible warning. These timings are approximate and are not a guarantee that outdated conditions will always be detected or flagged.
Three blue lights at the first surf break mean the map is offering its Tern Maps Setup Wi-Fi network. A single purple light at that break means it is trying to reconnect. See our support page for steps.
If you're unsure whether a problem is related to your map or its connection, contact us and we'll help diagnose it.
After the One-Year Warranty
We still want to hear from you if something happens after the warranty expires.
Repairs or replacements outside the warranty period may not be free, but we'll evaluate the issue and determine what repair or replacement options are available.
Our goal is to keep Ternmaps working for as long as reasonably possible rather than treating them as disposable electronics.
